The 4th chapter of Deuteronomy is a reminder to the children of God of His laws and power. In it, they were commanded to remember 4 things.
  • His Faithfulness
  • His Holiness
  • His Blessings
  • and His WARNINGS...
Verse 23-26 warns the people not to forget their covenant with Him. God described himself as a "Consuming fire and a Jealous God".

... I received a praise report from a couple I prayed for in India last August. On October 28, 2012 they celebrated the birth of their first child. Now, that may not sound like a big deal until you hear the circumstances surrounding the birth of this baby boy.

The couple traveled quite a distance and asked if I could meet with them in private. The person who brought them to me is a strong, Christian woman, whom I've known for several years. Serving as interpreter, she told me that this affluent couple had been married for nearly 12 years and wanted prayer for the "Wife", who was barren, to conceive a child.

Not wanting of offend, I asked my friend, "How free am I to share what the Lord is telling me"? She assured me they were open to whatever the Lord had to say. The Lord told me to tell them, "It was not the wife who was barren but the husband". The wife began to hold her head and rock back and forth weeping, uncontrollably. The Husband, also crying, now begins to tell me his life's story.

It turned out that doctors had examined both of them. Her diagnosis was, she had some minor female problems, but nothing that would prevent her from having children. The husbands report came back that he was not able to father a child. Knowing the culture, I understood why they told me the wife was barren, but the truth had to be revealed so that God could heal.

They told me that before he was born, his mother, a woman from a devote Hindu family, went to a Christian woman for prayer to conceive a child. She gave her life to the Lord and vowed that if God would give her a child, she would never go back to idol worship. Not long afterward she conceived him. His mother stayed committed to God for about 2 years but then returned to her Hindu roots and he grew up worshiping in the temples.

Fast Forward .... Now, a man in his early 30's, married and childless, he believes the bareness of his mother was passed on to him for breaking her promise to God.

After hearing this story, the Lord led me to tell them that He would give them a son but it wasn't just for the sake of "Saving Face" but that God's power and glory would be revealed to his people. the Lord also led me to tell them that if they did not keep their promise, the child would die. We prayed and the rest is history.

Today, I celebrate with them the birth of a son. I am in awe of a God who shows mercy and grace to those who repent.

... Deuteronomy 4: 30-31 says, "When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice. (For the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them."

The key here is to remember our promises. God is not in the business of blessing us so that we can be "Blessed Sinners" but He wants us to be faithful to Him, because He is always faithful to us. My prayer for this child is that he lives a LONG and Godly life.
